Formerly the Executive Chef for the Restaurant at the Getty, Matt Lee has a quiet passion for culinary integrity and innovation. His exquisite eye for detail is evident in everything from his careful flavor composition to the stunning and playful visual presentation of each element on the plate. At 917, his facility with fresh, locally caught fish and other seafood complements his mastery of more traditional steak, chicken, and pork offerings, which he tends to balance with a bright vegetable accompaniment.

Matt began his career at the age of 16 prepping seafood and vegetables at a local dining destination. After high school he attended the California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena and went straight into fine dining, as Sous Chef at the historic and award-winning Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas, CA, where he first fell in love with cooking seasonally and locally. He was also inspired by his grandfather, who opened a restaurant in New York with friends soon after emigrating from China, and who later always tended a bountiful backyard garden in Los Angeles — as Matt also does.

Bobby Bognar has spent most of his life in hospitality, beginning with his first restaurant job washing dishes at the age of 15. After working nearly every station, an early mentor instilled in him a passion for service that solidified front-of-house hospitality as his lifelong calling. Originally from Richmond, VA, Bobby relocated to Los Angeles 25 years ago, where he spent 9 years with Patina Restaurant Group followed by over a dozen years at iconic restaurants The Palm, Geoffrey’s Malibu, and Crossroads Kitchen. As general manager of the Restaurant at the Getty, Bobby worked alongside Restaurant 917 Executive Chef Matt Lee for two years. Having owned and operated his own restaurant, Bobby brings an exceptional attention to detail to every aspect of the dining experience. Bobby is thrilled to once again combine his unique brand of service with Matt’s innovative food for a truly special dining experience at Restaurant 917.
